With their significant roles in U.S. golf history, The Village and Pinehurst Resort gained National Landmark status in 1996. Located in an area known as "the Sandhills" in Moore County, The Village of Pinehurst is in south central North Carolina about 60 miles southwest of Raleigh, the state capital, and about 75 miles east of Charlotte. With its temperate climate and sandy terrain, the area seems designed for golf. And you'll find more than 40 courses within minutes of the Village with an incomparable list of course designers including Donald Ross, Ellis Maples, Tom Fazio, Robert Trent Jones, Rees Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and more.

Equestrian
The sandy soil that gave the Sandhills area its name makes it as ideal for galloping as it is for golf. Gorgeous white fences, stables and pasture land stretch across the Sandhills, reminding you that equestrian activities have been held here for centuries. The Pinehurst Harness Track has been the winter home of champions since 1915. The 25-acre Equestrian Center at Mclendon Hills boasts round pens, lesson ring, run-in-sheds and miles of bridle trails. And the annual Stoneybrook Steeplechase has been held at The Carolina Horse Park for more than 50 years. It's a horseman's dream.
Medical Care
The healthful climate that draws golfers, horsemen and retirees is complemented by the flagship medical facilities of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Part of FirstHealth of the Carolinas, the region's first comprehensive health care network, this 385-bed, acute care, not-for-profit hospital offers a full-range of health care services as well as an active medical staff of 192 physicians, a professional staff of more than 2,700 and more than 725 volunteers.
Surrounding Area
Approximately 45 minutes north of Pinehurst is one of nation's richest areas for pottery and ceramics. Seagrove Pottery has been home to artists and potters for more than 200 years. About the same distance east, you'll find the North Carolina Zoo, one of the largest "natural habitat" zoos in the United States. And an hour's drive away lies Raleigh, the capitol of the state and a hub of art and culture, featuring landmarks like the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, The North Carolina Museum of History, The North Carolina Museum of Art, The North Carolina Symphony and the The Carolina Ballet.
