Tradition of Old Town

An Incomparable Way of Life

With their significant roles in U.S. golf history, The Village and Pinehurst Resort gained National Landmark status in 1996. Located in an area known as "the Sandhills" in Moore County, The Village of Pinehurst is in south central North Carolina about 60 miles southwest of Raleigh, the state capital, and about 75 miles east of Charlotte. With its temperate climate and sandy terrain, the area seems designed for golf. And you'll find more than 40 courses within minutes of the Village with an incomparable list of course designers including Donald Ross, Ellis Maples, Tom Fazio, Robert Trent Jones, Rees Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and more.

Golf

No fewer than twenty-three of the courses in Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen are rated 4-stars or better in the Golf Digest's "2008 Best Places to Play" Ratings. From Jack Nicklaus' masterpiece at National Golf Club to the historic Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club which hosted the 1996, 2001 and 2007 U.S. Women's Open Championships to the Reese Jones classic at Talamore to the 230-acre sculpted sand mounds of The Pit, you'll find a course to challenge every style of play.

Equestrian

The sandy soil that gave the Sandhills area its name makes it as ideal for galloping as it is for golf. Gorgeous white fences, stables and pasture land stretch across the Sandhills, reminding you that equestrian activities have been held here for centuries. The Pinehurst Harness Track has been the winter home of champions since 1915. The 25-acre Equestrian Center at Mclendon Hills boasts round pens, lesson ring, run-in-sheds and miles of bridle trails. And the annual Stoneybrook Steeplechase has been held at The Carolina Horse Park for more than 50 years. It's a horseman's dream.
